Revolution – Conceal and Define Foundation – Review Plus 8 Hour Wear Test!!!

£9.99 - Revolution - Superdrug

If you follow me on Instagram then you may already know that I’m doing a full month of foundation reviews here on My Cruelty Free World. All will be Cruelty Free (obvs!) and I think pretty much all of them are Vegan. What’s even better is that all of them are under £10 (this girls on a budget lol).

Foundation Testing Rules:

Before we get into the reviewing, just a few rules on how EVERY foundation review I do is going to happen.

  1. I will apply the products with a brush ( Revolution Pro Stippling Brush) on one side of my face, and a beauty blender (Primark Dupe) on the other.

  2. Foundation will be set with the Revolution Bake and Finish Powder.

  3. I will be wearing each foundation for 7 – 8 hours taking pics around every 4 hours.

  4. I have oily skin, with occasional dry patches around my nose. What works for me might not work for you.

  5. All pics are taken with the same camera but obviously lighting will change due to time of the day.

Onto the testing:

Revolution Conceal & Define Foundation - F1

Conceal and Define Concealer is amazing – I think that’s a pretty universal opinion – I have about 5 shades and it’s perfect for under eyes, concealing blemishes, highlighting, contouring, and even to create an easy cut crease… but is its foundation counterpart any good?

At £9.99, it’s at the higher end for a drugstore foundation – and is actually the second most expensive one I own (I tend to go for things at around the £5-£7 mark). It comes  in a really pretty glass bottle with a rose gold coloured top. It’s pretty much a bigger version of the concealer. While I like the look and feel of the packaging, It’s not particularly travel friendly and with foundations and primers I tend to cut the ends off of the tubes to get the last little bit out of the packet. That’s completely impossible here.

I should also probably point out that this bottle only holds 25ml not the 30ml that you get with most foundations.

Revolution Conceal & Define Foundation - Doefoot/Applicator.

At first I really liked the giant doefoot applicator (I honestly don’t know why), I guess it seemed like a pretty cool idea. I’ve kind of grown to hate it.

Having this kind of applicator in the product means there’s really no other way of applying than putting it straight on your face and as it dries down pretty quickly, you end up having to work in sections.

There wasn’t really any big difference between using a brush or sponge. I would say it took slightly more time to develop any creasing on the sponge side but it wasn’t noticeable enough for me to say don’t use a brush.

Revolution Conceal & Define Foundation - First Applied, Testing.

On first applying the product, I straight away noticed how drying it was. As you can see in the picture above, it made my under eyes look far worse than I’ve ever seen them. I’m in my 20s and I don’t have very wrinkly eyes but this Foundation aged me (I hate it!!! Lol).

Revolution Conceal & Define Foundation - Testing on Dry Skin.

It also gave my upper eyes and forehead the worst looking and feeling dry skin. Having very oily skin, especially on my forehead, this really surprised me. It looks awful.

Four hours later:

Revolution Conceal & Define Foundation - Testing After 4 Hours.

Four hours later and the story had completely changed. The coverage had gone, especially on any red areas and my now very oily skin was starting to show through, the foundation breaking up around my nose, cheeks and chin.

I wear glasses and the line across my cheek is where they have been sitting against my face. I have this problem with all foundations, but this happened fairly quickly and to a worse extent.

Best thing I can say at this point – my undereyes had finally gone back to looking like normal and the dry skin on my forehead was kinda better.

8 hours after application:

Revolution Conceal & Define Foundation - Testing After 8 Hours.

First things first, I feel like I should apologise for how disgusting this picture is, but at just over 8 hours I was soooo done. My skin felt so dry and uncomfortable, Foundation had practically slid off my face and was starting to ball up around areas like the side of my nose.

My chin looked so shiny it was almost like I’d not applied anything at all. My nose and cheeks weren’t much better. I have to say, I was ready to take this off well before 8 hours was up, but I tried to persevere.

The Results –

Overall, I just don’t like this Foundation. I feel like for someone with a normal skin type would probably find this okay, but anyone with dry or oily skin are going to have problems.

Hating the idea of waste, I will be using this bottle up but I will definitely be using a ton of moisturiser and only using it on days when I only need a few hours worth of wear.

I think you can already guess that I won’t be repurchasing this Foundation, nor would I really recommend it. There are a fair few better for the same, if not cheaper. It’s a real shame as Revolution have come out with some of the best cosmetics on the market. Their Mascara for instance, is probably the best I’ve ever tried!

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to join me for my next Foundation review coming soon.
