5 Years of Revolution – My Top 5
It’s kind of hard to believe, but Revolution is already 5 years old. I remember back to 2014 when the brand was being raved about online and my desperate scramble to find a Superdrug that stocked any of their products. I eventually managed to find it on a trip to a city centre store and grabbed one of their Ultra Sculpt and Contour Kits – It was less than £4 and back then I was desperate to achieve that Kim Kardashian style contour but hadn’t been able to find something within my price range.
Five years later and I don’t feel like Revolution has lost that initial draw for me – bringing me the latest trends from online (and Hollywood) but at a price I can afford. If you looked into my everyday makeup bag, you would see at least 50% Revolution products, probably more.
Now, the idea for this blog post isn’t exactly original – I was inspired by Revolutions own instagram feed – but I just couldn’t resist the opportunity to rave (in some cases again!) about my Top Five Revolution Products!
5. Bake and Finish Powder – £5
I sometimes give this powder a hard time, it does make my undereyes look dry and wrinkled, and the packaging sometimes drives me crazy – yet I still use it all the time.
Before Revolution brought out their loose powder I’ll be honest, I had pretty much given up using powder on my shiny oily skin, instead opting for a matte cakey foundation or a mineral powder foundation. This little pot really did change the game for me.
Using it all over the face as a dusting and even baking in really oily areas, you get a massive amount of product for a small amount, so you don’t need to feel like you need to be careful. I do use a more expensive (Lottie London) much finer powder on my undereyes, but I will definitely be repurchasing this when I run out – although it feels like it’s never ending!
4. Conceal and Define Concealer – £4
I remember when this bad boy dropped. I think this might have been the first Revolution product to go viral and I completely understand why.
There was a time when drugstore concealers pretty much took one of two forms – a stick cream concealer in a tube that usually cost around £1-£2, or a liquid in a container exactly the same as a lip gloss with a tiny little doefoot that usually got pretty scratchy as it got older. Of course there were exceptions to the rule, but anything under £10 tended to look pretty similar.
Conceal and Define costs £4, has this massive doefoot which actually makes a lot more sense, and gives everyone major Tarte Shape Tape vibes. It’s Cruelty Free, Vegan, available in 50 shades and also has 7 correcting shades under the name Conceal and Correct (the green shade is the best I’ve ever used!). A £7 supersize version is also available which insanely good value.
3. Full Cover Camouflage Foundation – £7
I’ve reviewed this before here and I am definitely cheating slightly by adding it to my list (It’s Revolution Pro after all) but using this as my everyday base, I honestly don’t think I could live without it.
As someone who has very oily skin and suffers with hormonal acne, most of the time I need something with decent coverage, but I hate that caked on feeling. This foundation dries down comfortably and has a second skin feeling while delivering amazing coverage. At £7 it’s reasonably priced, is Vegan and comes in 24 shades.
2. Revolution x Tammi Tropical Paradise Palette – £10
The only non-vegan item on my list and actually an accidental purchase because of that, I bought this palette purely after swatching the amazing shimmering gold on the bottom right.
There are so many looks you can create in here, from a neutral, to a soft and smokey, and even a bold and out there look. There is something to suit everyone and has a really user friendly layout (which is something you don’t think too much about but does make a difference). I especially love the transition shades at the bottom.
The pigments are all strong and vibrant, not at all chalky, and are easy to blend. I love all Revolution palettes, but this is probably my favourite. Tammi did a really great job and I can’t wait to try her new palette (which just so happens to be Vegan – yay!).
1. The Mascara Revolution – £8
I don’t think this will come as a surprise to anyone who has read my previous review here. I was shocked that a drug store mascara could look as good, if not better than a £24 high end one. If you like something that lengthens and adds volume, then this is the one.
When first opened it is slightly too wet (if that makes sense?) and definitely gets better a few weeks later as less product gets on the wand. It’s also now available in a waterproof formula which is pretty cool.
And that was my top five Revolution products. It was actually pretty hard to choose just five – even a top ten would have been difficult. Revolution has come a long way in just five years and I honestly can’t wait to see what happens next.
