I Heart Revolution Tasty Avocado Palette – Review
£10 - Revolution - Superdrug
Holy Guacamole! I love a green eyeshadow palette (I’ve had the Colour Pop one on my wish list for ages!). So, when I saw I Heart Revolution releasing this little beauty – I knew I had to Avo-go!
I’ve gotta start this post by admitting that I have never eaten an avocado! I’m probably the only person on the whole planet who hasn’t and I am very ashamed 😬
The packaging of the palette is so fun, and really fits in with their Chocolate Bar collection. There is also a pizza and chilli palette in this range – but I honestly just wasn’t feeling them.
Inside:
Opening the palette is when it really becomes apparent that this is in the chocolate range. Same layout, way of naming shades – I was honestly starting to wonder if there was the usual moulding under the silicone avocado.
The shadows themselves are absolutely beautiful. A fantastic mix of Green, Brown, and Pale Blue. Not entirely sure what Blue has to do with avocados, but they do actually make a good addition to the palette.
Stand out shades for me, are “Smash” and “Bite”. Both are shimmers very similar in formula to “Jazz It Up” from the Revolution Pro New Neutral Palette , if not a little bit more gritty.
Cruelty Free Credentials:
I bought this palette on a dash to Superdrug for something else. It was so late, they even turned the lights off on us lol. Not an excuse, but I didn’t check the ingredients list until I was in the car park.
Long story short, this palette is cruelty free, but NOT vegan. The product contains Carmine in various shades. This is disappointing, as this is something I expect in more purple, pink or red shadows.
Testing:
Starting with, I primed my eyes with the Revolution Cut Crease Canvas and carved out my crease with the shade “Hass”. The shade is super pigmented a easy to blend. I then softened the edges with “Toast”.
Using the Cut Crease Canvas to literally cut the crease, I covered this in the shade “Foody”, adding this “Smash” to the lower lid.
On the inner corner I used the shade “Pear”, followed by “Lime” on my lower lash line .
The palette performed well, with really decent colour payoff – something I have come to expect from Revolution. There was a lot of kickback in the pan, which did cause a small amount of problems.
It lasted very well over a full six hours of wear without fading or creasing.
Swatches:
While swatching the shadows it was easy to see the difference between these and the Revolution Pro from another palette. Not as soft and buttery, they can feel slightly gritty or chalky to the touch.
In the sunlight it’s easy to see just how beautiful the shimmers in the palette truly are. They also don’t take any building, which is a real plus for drugstore shadows.
The top two shades, “Mousse” and “Stone” were a real surprise to me on swatching. Both beautiful, pigmented shades that I regretted not using in my eye look.
The Verdict:
Revolution are churning out palettes practically every week these days, and It can be hard to see what’s really worth buying and what you can live without.
I truly believe that this is one of the few palettes that is a must have. It performs beautifully, is affordable, and is something slightly different to many of their other offerings.
Overall, if you’re in the market for a green themed eyeshadow palette, this Avocado themed one should definitely be on your list.
